The Thrill of the Future

From the robot obsessed to the tech junkie there is no greater destination than Sci-Fi City USS (Universal Studios Singapore).

Perhaps the most visible zone of the park from afar, Sci-Fi City USS stands out from the crowd with tall, futuristic buildings and a pair of the world's tallest intertwining roller coasters. Like many other areas of the park, this zone boasts shade and rain cover and climate control.

Battlestar Galactica: Human or Cylon?

Perhaps the biggest attraction in Sci-Fi City USS (and perhaps the whole park for thrill seekers) is the Battlestar Galactica: Human or Cylon? set of roller coasters, which are a Universal Studios Singapore original attraction. Based on the wildly popular television show, the Battlestar Galactica attraction recreates the spirit of the most intense human and Cylon dogfights in an artistic and terrifying way.

Guests are greeted at the entrance of the exhibit with a choice, will they side with Humans or the robotic yet lifelike Cylons? Visitors who choose to "fight" for humanity will ride a seated roller coaster with jarring banks and turns, while the brave few who choose the Cylon side will ride in a suspended Cylon Raider, feet dangling precipitously over the empty space below while experiencing corkscrew twists, cobra loops, and zero-grolls.

While waiting in line, guests are told a different side of the Human/Cylon conflict, depending on which side they chose. As the cars exit the building together visitors get a good glance at their "enemy" before the thrills begin. Snaking together, at times mere feet apart, the coaster brings the Cylons and Humans into close contact before whipping them apart and back together again. Not only does the Battlestar Galactica: Human or Cylon attraction provide one of the most thrilling rides in the park, it brings to life a wonderful aspect of the show for fans to cherish.

My Testimonial

The biggest challenge of all the 24 attractions in USS. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted. My heart almost popping out when the roller coaster accelerates to full force half way climbing up the slope. While moving up, it didn't stop at the peak and straight away jump down the steep slope, quite different from other roller coasters in the US. If that scare you, take the accelerator instead.

Accelerator

If roller coasters aren't your thing, or perhaps you already indulged in those sweets you bought at Superstar Candies, then a spin on the Accelerator could be just the ticket. A wild spinning ride, the Accelerator is based upon the ideas of electricity and power, including solar and wind power. Whirling guests around like electrons around a nucleus, the Accelerator provides thrills and chills. Just make sure the world stops spinning before you start walking through Sci-Fi City USS again!

Transformers

Little has been released about the Transformers attraction, which is scheduled to open in 2011, but if the theme of thrills in Sci-Fi City USS is any indicator then this ride promises to be wildly exciting. After all, how could a ride based on such an exciting movie be anything else?

For fans of the show Battlestar Galactica there is the Galactica PX, a great shop in which to gather all your favorite souvenirs from the thrilling ride and the beloved show. Who doesn't need a miniature Cylon Sentinel on their desk at work? Now if only it could shoot lasers at pesky coworkers. Guests can also find Sci-Fi memorabilia from all of their favorite Universal Studios films and shows at the Galactica PX.

Sci-Fi City USS promises to provide great thrill and chills for the more adventurous Universal Studios Singapore guests, as well as unique rides found no where else in the world. My only question is, where's my ticket?
